Business Improvement & Strategy - Principal Consultant

Be a pivotal driving force behind our key strategic initiatives and navigate complex business issues, spanning across revenue enhancement, operational efficiency and organizational design.

As a Principal Consultant based in our New York office, working within our Business Improvement and Strategy division, you will demonstrate your deep knowledge of consulting principles and the delivery of practical outcomes across multiples prior engagements and industries. You will gain direct exposure to Director and Managing Director-level supervisors and clients, and as such, your innate ability to build and nurture meaningful relationships will be paramount to success

Your experience as Management Consultant and the facilitation and delivery of projects will be highlighted by delivering commercially sound and practical results.  Your strategic approach to problem solving will include quantitative analysis, financial modelling, hypothesis based issue analysis and the use of multiple strategic frameworks.

You are degree qualified, with strong academic results behind you, and either working towards or previously obtained your MBA. Your previous experience within a top management consulting firm for a minimum of 5 years will see you bring a wealth of experience and knowledge across supporting senior executives and cross-group initiatives to achieve operational excellence – globally.

The Business Improvement & Strategy Division (BIS) partners with Macquarie businesses and support areas to pursue opportunities, navigate complex business issues, and facilitate change.

BIS offers strategic advice and support to senior executives across the firm and drives cross-group initiatives. The team of approximately 25 consultants globally has broad consulting and operational experience – both at Macquarie, as well as at other financial services and top consulting firms, including Accenture, Bain & Company, Booz & Company, McKinsey & Company, and The Boston Consulting Group.

Services offered include strategic planning, revenue growth, operational excellence, project management, change management, acquisition support and transition management.


BIS combines a strategic and operational approach with an understanding of Macquarie’s businesses and key stakeholders to develop enduring, profitable solutions.

  • Strategic, operational and commercial approach – The team’s consulting and commercial experience brings rigor, discipline, and insight. BIS applies fact-based analytic and project management disciplines to simplify and solve complex and ambiguous problems.
  • Understanding of Macquarie’s businesses – BIS understands the key revenue and cost drivers across Macquarie’s diverse and complex businesses, in addition to the strategic context and culture in which they operate.
  • Strong cross-group relationships – BIS maintains strong relationships across the operating groups, support areas and Central Executive to facilitate cross-group initiatives and collaboration.
  • Broad industry knowledge – BIS leverages knowledge and experience from across the financial services industry and from other industries where appropriate.
  • Independent but aligned – BIS is independent, yet part of Macquarie. The team is sensitive to confidentialities and maintains ongoing accountability for results.
