Development Director, Offshore Wind

Join Corio as a Development Director in our Sao Paulo office. This is an exceptional opportunity to join a growing team, who values collegial teamwork and dedication to excellence.

Corio is a specialist offshore wind company which is wholly owned by Macquarie's Green Investment Group and was launched in April 2022. It has a development portfolio of more than 20 gigawatts of offshore wind projects globally. This role would be focused on our portfolio of projects in Brazil which includes 5 projects in 3 regions which have a combined capacity of over 5GW.

With your 10 – 15 years of experience you will play a pivotal role in development oversight bringing your proven ability to connect and manage relevant stakeholders including offtaker to grid operator, governmental bodies, service providers and contractors on behalf of the Sponsor and/or the project. This includes representing Sponsors in interactions and oversight of local partners, managing the relationship with development partners and providing oversight as needed and leading Sponsor development activities and managing items such as budgets, milestones, schedules and deliverables for the development portfolio. In this role it will be key that you develop and cultivate relationships with Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches of government and their various departments and agencies.

In this role, you will also oversee development activities such as site acquisition, real estate and title curative, interconnection, regulatory approvals, engineering, land use permitting, environmental permitting and stakeholder management programs. It will be your responsibility as Development Director to ensure all activities are in compliance with international stakeholders and best practices. In addition to the previously mentioned development oversight responsibilities, you will be accountable for ensuring all development stakeholder agreements (land leases, interconnection agreements, etc.) are fit for purpose and ensure key interfaces are included in the key technical agreements. Finally, you will manage interconnection contract development and negotiations for such contracts.

Your other key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the development and implementation of an appropriate commercial strategy for the project
  • Reviewing and preparing technical specifications and documentation to be used in confidential information memos or independent engineering reports for construction financing and sell-down
  • Coordinating technical aspects of lender and investor due diligence and documentation during construction debt financings and in support of our eventual sell-down
  • Auditing all technical inputs and cash flows of our lender and/or equity financial models
  • Reviewing Independent Engineering and Insurance Reports for debt financing and sell-down
  • Assisting with management of key stakeholder relationships during the development and construction including landowners, transmission service provider, ISO, and permitting jurisdictions

To be successful in this role, you will have a university degree or equivalent in relevant disciplines (i.e. engineering, environmental), knowledge and experience of the Brazilian renewable energy market including market and operational requirements (including project auction processes) and the ability to critically evaluate development challenges and creatively apply experience to unconventional situations.

Additional requirements include:

  • A strong drive to deliver results, persistent in overcoming obstacles, and eager to take responsibility for making things happen in a complex development landscape
  • Strong people management skills with ability to work in teams and experience in managing remote and indirect internal and external workforces, including partners, consultants, and contractors
  • Strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills
  • Fluent Portuguese and English

Your experience as a Development Director or at a senior level on other energy projects in Brazil including onshore renewables and/or oil and gas projects is required. Previous offshore wind experience would be an advantage.
