Credit Manager- Commercial Real Estate Team

New York

Join Macquarie and accelerate your career at a forward-thinking, client-focused firm. Professionals at Macquarie work harder and think differently in order to create more profitable outcomes for their clients. By joining Macquarie, you will have the opportunity to work in an exciting, dynamic environment where your contribution is recognized from day one.

The Credit Risk group is seeking an experienced professional to join our Commercial Real Estate team based in New York.  The team focuses on Macquarie’s on-balance sheet investments (both debt and equity) in the Americas with primary focus on major US markets.

As part of Macquarie’s Risk Management Group, Credit Risk is responsible for analyzing and assessing credit and equity exposures taken by Macquarie, to minimize the risk of loss arising from failure of counterparties to repay loans or honor contracts.  Credit's responsibilities include assessing the credit and equity risks arising from new products, businesses, funds, and trading structures. On principal transactions, Credit works with the deal teams to develop risk mitigation strategies.

In this role, you will be supporting Directors with transactions early in the deal process, identifying key issues, liaising with business team counterparts, and coordinating the credit response. Duties include analysis of financial modeling, counterparty financial statements and review of term sheets to understand deal structures.  The Credit Manager will be responsible for due diligence – including third-party report review (including appraisals), compilation of market rent and sales data from external sources and review of legal documentation.  As part of our due diligence process, occasional travel (10-20%) will be required for asset site visits and management meetings with potential clients, alongside your client-facing counterparts.  The Credit Manager will also have primary responsibility for portfolio monitoring of a subset of our existing $2BN debt and equity investments.

To be successful in this role you will have a quantitative mindset with excellent written and verbal communication skills and will be able to work in an open, fast-paced environment. Persuasive communication skills (both written and verbal), combined with confidence when being challenged will be necessary in this role as you liaise with our business teams and senior leadership within Credit. Being a collegial team member who builds open dialogue-based relationships will help you succeed in this deal-oriented risk management role.  The Credit Manager will also assist in training and guiding junior Associate/Analyst staff.

To be considered for this role you will have:

•            Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics, or other quantitative discipline

•            4+ years of experience in real estate, finance, asset management or investment banking preferred

•            Proficiency in Microsoft Excel financial modeling and PowerPoint (Argus is a plus)

•            Experience in conducting due diligence or broader credit risk analysis is highly desired.

•            Demonstrated experience in commercial real estate finance– both debt and equity preferred

•            Initiative, achievement drive, and an inquisitive nature

Knowledge of rating agency and B-piece buyer criteria for CMBS and previous workout experience is a plus.  MBA or Credit training from a “money-center” bank desired.

This opportunity would suit highly analytical and commercially oriented individuals who enjoy working in a challenging and complex environment.  Title and compensation commensurate with experience.

If you have a genuine interest in the real estate finance markets, possess strong numerical and analytical skills, and see yourself as having a high degree of drive, apply today.
