Do you want to experience being part of a talented global team? Are you instinctively entrepreneurial and ambitious in nature? At Macquarie, we look for innovative, driven and talented professionals who share our drive for excellence.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced structured commodity finance professional to join our Commodity Markets and Finance division’s APAC commodity finance business. This role is within the Commodities and Global Markets group. You will have the opportunity to work with stakeholders at all levels, including senior management and be relied on for your subject matter expertise, and need to remain up to date on legal, compliance and economic issues affecting the structured commodity finance industry.

This opportunity will provide the opportunity to play a vital role in originating, structuring and helping to manage the APAC commodity finance business.

We are looking for candidates with the following profile:

  • At least 10-15 years of experience in a commodity finance role (bank, corporate or trade house)
  • Experience across commodities (energy, metals and ags) is preferred, but extensive experience in energy/oil is a requirement
  • A strong existing network, but also the ability to develop senior client relationships, particularly in the hub of the business in Singapore. These relationships could be across c-suite, finance/treasury, physical trading or logistics
  • Experience with a business development mindset – looking for niches to expand the business
  • The ability to contribute to thought leadership/idea creation in terms of new, innovative structures and solutions for clients
  • Structuring will require being able to navigate and combine traditional bank financing and physical ownership structures to leverage Macquarie’s physical and financial commodity platform:
    • Familiarity with the suite of commodity financing structures – prepayments, ownership structures, secured facilities and letters of credit/receivables
    • Experience with physical commodity conventions (such as Incoterms, physical contracts, operations and logistics) would be viewed favourably
    • Project finance experience would also be beneficial
    • Understanding the accounting and balance sheet implications of structures, designing pitches for clients, designing, and drafting term sheets, reviewing and negotiating transaction contracts and other, related technical work
  • Experience in dealing with senior internal stakeholders and having excellent communication skills and a clear and concise mindset will be vital to your success
  • The role will be “player/manager”, with the person being an individual that wants to pursue their own transactions/P&L but also guide other members of the team on leads generation and best practices in structuring
    • Experience in managing people, particularly experience with helping to drive origination and guide structuring would be helpful
  • A risk management mindset, and demonstrated good track record with past transactions
  • The ideal candidates will be highly self-motivated and able to work with reasonable autonomy.  This role may involve travel requirements/opportunities
  • Familiarity with the various jurisdictions of APAC
  • Mandarin language skills would be beneficial
