Application Support Engineer - Sydney


Come and join the Commodities and Global Markets team in supporting stakeholders across the Macquarie Group.  In this role, you will be a talented Application Support Engineer with at least 3 years solid experience and join our Futures DevOps team to support the local business.

This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to provide day-to-day production support to the Futures businesses including inhouse and vendor applications. You will use your technology skills to improve the environment including automation and projects and take ownership of operational issues and perform both short-term resolutions and develop preventive measures for the longer term.

You will be a valued member of our team if you are a self-motivated and proactive team player and have excellent communication skills, enabling you to engage with all levels of stakeholders. Ideally, in this role you will have:

  • minimum 3 years’ experience providing application support, preferably on financial markets. A strong understanding of Futures and Options markets is desirable with experience in Futures Trading and Execution platforms
  • excellent and wide-reaching technical skills enabling deep analysis and fast issue resolution
  • experience working with business customers and translating technology into business terms and vice versa
  • proven background in proactive identification of problems and implementing business process, data, application, or technology-related solutions
  • experience handling Incident and Problems to ensure healthy and stable Production environments

Along with:

  • experience of operating systems – proficient with UNIX and Windows environments
  • support of applications running under Java/J2EE
  • experience writing SQL queries and interacting with databases (Sybase/Oracle/SQL Server)
  • supporting applications running in a cloud environment
  • understanding of basic networking and different file transfer methods (SFTP, MQ, API)
  • good knowledge of health/alerting tools and tuning them to tighten environment controls
  • good knowledge of ITIL & Agile tools and processes (e.g., Remedy, JIRA, Confluence) for Incident/Change/Problem management

In this role you will:

  • proactively monitor the system health and respond to alerts to provide high availability and performance of the application set including automation of health checks
  • be responsible for the stability and maintenance of the Futures production environment
  • identify and exploit opportunities to improve the production environment throughout our application stack
  • Work closely with global team members in a follow-the-sun model.
