Join our Calgary based Commodity and Global Markets business as a Structurer/Originator, covering the Americas.

In this role, you will originate, structure, and execute structured commodity transactions, primarily leveraging Macquarie’s physical and financial commodity platform. Your focus will be originating and managing Macquarie’s role in supporting upstream, midstream and downstream physical solutions across logistics modes (vessels, barges, rail, blending) for assets across the Americas, actively coordinating with the trading books and control groups in offices worldwide.

In this role, your primary function will be to originate and commercialize client-driven and trader-specific physical commodity solutions across heavy crude oil, light sweet crude oil, condensate, products (gasoline, jet, diesel), NGLs (C2+, C3+)/spec products (ethane, propane, butane, condensate)) and petrochemicals (methanol) to maximize risk-adjusted returns and optionality for Macquarie’s clients and the physical commodity trading business.

You'll meet regularly and engage in ongoing communication with internal trading and business development teams to determine short-, medium- and long-term opportunities to facilitate transportation or storage capacity at various locations and to provide market/pricing information and market intelligence and support middle and back office in contract and document negotiation including approvals, accounting and invoicing.

In this role you will be relied on for your subject matter expertise, and need to remain up to date on legal, compliance and economic issues affecting the hydrocarbon and financial services industry.

Additional Responsibilities include:

  • understanding the accounting and balance sheet implications of structures, designing pitches for clients, designing, and drafting term sheets, reviewing and negotiating transaction contracts and other, related technical work. 
  • build and maintain new client relationships 
  • contribute to thought leadership/idea creation in terms of new, innovative structures and solutions for clients
  • manage internal stakeholders including Credit, Legal and Management to get transactions approved within the parameters set by Macquarie. 

In order to be successful in this role, you will have 10+ years of experience in successfully structuring agreements amongst various market participants, commodity trading, and commodity related technical accounting/audit and law.  The ideal candidates will be highly self-motivated and able to work with reasonable autonomy.  This role may require up to 20% travel.
