Analyst, Mining Finance


Come join Macquarie’s Mining Finance team in Toronto as an Analyst in the Commodities and Global Markets group. You will work with the team to make and manage principal credit and equity investments and assist in structuring and marketing derivatives to clients in the mining and metals sector.

With a 20+ year track record in North America, the Mining Finance team has invested in and provided development financing for many high-quality mining projects, creating significant value for stakeholders.

In this revenue-generating role you will provide support to senior members of the team in evaluating lending, commodity derivatives and investment opportunities, conducting research, developing deal recommendations, participating in the execution of deals and on-going deal monitoring and management.

You will be responsible for building complex and dynamic financial models to test assumptions and sensitivities, preparing investment memoranda, derivative pricing and analysis and deal documentation, and liaising with internal and external parties to secure approvals and close transactions. You will work alongside complementary business lines, such as investment banking, equipment finance, trading businesses and other specialized groups within Macquarie.

You will have the opportunity to participate in all aspects of the lending and investment process as part of a global team of 20+ mining finance professionals including geologists and mining engineers. Our open team environment will enable you to gain a wide breadth of experience and contribute to deal recommendations. The position is expected to involve some travel.

To be successful in this role, you will be a highly driven, commercially oriented, outgoing individual with a track record of superior academic achievements. You will also have strong interpersonal, business relationship, and communication skills and an interest in the mining and metals sector and financial markets.

To be considered for this role you will have:

  • At least 1-2 years of mining engineering, corporate finance, investment banking, leveraged finance, equity research, and/or buy side investing experience, preferably in the Mining sector
  • An undergraduate mining engineering or finance degree (or similar)
  • Strong research, financial modelling, analytical, communication, and valuation skills
