Upstream Oil and Gas Analyst/Associate


Macquarie Group is looking for a highly motivated individual who values collegial teamwork and a dedication to excellence, to join the upstream oil & gas team in the Commodities and Global Markets division as an Analyst / Associate based in Houston.

Commodities and Global Markets provides product solutions to producers, consumers, private equity, financial institutions, and investors with an integrated, end-to-end offering across global markets including equities, fixed income, foreign exchange and commodities. 

As an Analyst / Associate on the upstream oil & gas team, you will work directly with senior team members and clients on the full execution of oil & gas financings and commodity hedging strategies.   

Main role and responsibilities include:

  • Evaluate upstream oil & gas financings ranging from conforming/non-conforming revolving facilities, letters of credit, amortizing term loans, development term loans, and other alternative financing structures
  • Execute secured and unsecured commodity hedges working with traders on a variety of derivative products including swaps, forwards, futures, and options
  • Assisting with physical asset management agreements
  • Conduct many aspects of deal process including initial evaluation, structuring, financial modeling, presentations and other marketing materials, document review, and general due diligence
  • External interface with the executive management team of oil & gas companies and various financial institutions including private equity, private credit funds, banks, and others on existing and new transactions
  • Prepare pitch materials and maintain market data to win new business
  • Draft and present comprehensive approval request memos to management and risk management teams detailing the merits and risks of potential financings
  • Evaluate physical and financial hedge strategies for producers and the associated credit risk
  • Monitor portfolio performance and the financial condition of counterparties
  • Financial Statement analysis, credit analysis, and cash flow modelling for loan and hedging counterparties

Key skills required:

  • Minimum one year of experience in investment banking focused on the upstream oil & gas sector
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, and Powerpoint
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling capabilities
  • Existing knowledge of the North American energy market and U.S. upstream oil & gas companies
  • Strong commercial orientation and understanding of business and risk-related issues
  • Qualifications in finance, economics, engineering, or other quantitative disciplines
  • Strong communication skills and ability to seamlessly interact with senior executives
