Grid Connection Manager, Australia Renewables - Green Investment Group

Join us on an exciting journey to grow and deliver Macquarie’s pipeline of renewable energy projects in Australia. Macquarie’s Green Investment Group is developing a portfolio of utility-scale renewable energy projects in Australia and is looking for a Grid Connection Manager.

You will be responsible for evaluating, planning, and executing the connection related works on multiple new National Electricity Market (NEM) connected renewable energy projects. This will involve assessing regulatory requirements, undertaking internal network connection point feasibility studies, engaging with Network Service Provider (NSP’s) and consultants as required to drive the projects network connection applications from initial enquiry through to commercial operation. You will also be required to engage in regulatory and industry forums to ensure the Company remains current on the rapidly changing status of the NEM, connection requirements and potential opportunities.

Further responsibilities will include:

  • providing technical assistance during project development, including development of balance of plant tenders and requirements to ensure the factors influencing and influenced by the grid connection are considered.
  • managing and taking responsibility for the process of grid applications, ensuring they are submitted in a timely manner and progress through the NSP and Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) processes without delay.
  • maintaining relationships with NSP’s and OEM’s to drive performance and ensuring they deliver their services to company standards.
  • taking responsibility for grid intelligence and implementation of new connection methods arising from policy changes and changing industry standards.
  • developing standardised arrangements for grid connections that reduce installation time and cost whilst maintaining or improving plant.
  • supporting the delivery of projects by providing grid expertise to the project managers throughout the project lifecycle, including on-site support as required.
  • supporting the operation and maintenance of the plants by providing grid expertise to the Asset Manager throughout the life of the plant.
  • identifying and unlocking opportunities within T&D networks.

To be considered for the position you must be able to demonstrate the following skillsets and provide tangible examples of relevant experience:

  • Thorough understanding of the National Electricity Rules
  • Working knowledge of the current NEM network status, potential constraints, upgrades, and connection opportunities
  • Working knowledge of Marginal Loss Factor (MLF) calculation methodology and factors that can impact the long term MLF
  • Experience in dealing with AEMO, the Network Service Providers and grid modelling consultants required to progress projects through GPS and connection negotiations
  • Capable of dealing with grid connection issues
  • R1 and generator registration experience
  • Commissioning and R2 processes experience
  • Working knowledge of substation and wind / solar farm reticulation design and construction
  • Strong project management capability, including the ability to manage multiple competing projects simultaneously
  • Ability to deal with EPC contractors and Engineering Design Consultancies
  • Must be self-directed with the ability to run connection processes autonomously
  • Good communication skills and the ability to provide grid connection advice and services to multiple project delivery teams
  • Must be flexible with travelling to different states within Australia from time to time
  • Keen to grow and develop your skillset with an established developer that can offer a clear progression opportunity from the outset.
