Workplace Health Safety & Environment Director, Asia


Join our Macquarie Capital team as a commercially minded and dynamic Workplace Health Safety and Environment (WHSE) professional in Singapore. 

As a WHSE Director, you will be responsible for embedding our Workplace Health Safety and Environment strategy across our portfolio of assets in Asia, ensuring we are compliant with local legislation and have systems in place to effectively identify, assess and control material Workplace Health, Safety, Environment and Social risks. This role will report to the Regional Head of the Asia business as well as report into the WHSE central function.

You will be responsible for driving the regional WHSE program to comply with minimum corporate requirements as well as regional and local requirements.  Additionally, you will be working closely with the Asian deal teams to provide ongoing expert advice on WHSE matters for new transactions during due diligence and support the WHSE monitoring and management of existing assets.  You will lead or support initiatives such as training programs, work streams and system developments supporting the Health, Safety and Environment initiatives to meet the goals and strategy for Macquarie’s WHSE vision.  You will be required to perform HSE due diligence; review HSE consultant’s and contract’s, HSE programs and procedures as well as developing templates, case studies and supporting with the delivery of briefings and inductions. Staying on top of key regulatory developments within the region is also key, to ensure you are keeping pace with requirements and best practice and you will be required to lead site visits for internal reviews as well as train staff on how to do management system high level reviews and respond to incidents.

You will show leadership around Workplace Health Safety to help deepen the levels of ownership and accountability from the Macquarie Capital teams in Asia.  Working with Asset Managers you will also provide WHSE action plans where appropriate and conduct follow up inspections and internal audits on assets under construction or operations.  Working with colleagues globally you will also strengthen existing processes and introduce enhancements as required to bring practices to a consistent level globally.

With a tertiary qualification in a relevant field such as engineering or environmental science, you will have a minimum of 12 years proven experience as a Workplace Health Safety and Environment professional in either an internal or external advisory capacity with a minimum of 5 years of field experience or as part of a broader operations role with exposure to construction, infrastructure and renewables.  Experience working across the Asia region and global experience is preferred. You will also be required to have proven experience succeeding in a complex stakeholder environment, with strong relationship building and influencing skills and the ability to drive change.  You will ideally have experience of implementing Health, Safety and Environment management systems, working with teams during development, construction and operations phases of projects.  A willingness to travel regularly to site and within the Asia region will also be required in this role.
