The Macquarie Banking & Financial Services Group (BFS) is creating a team of the most respected professionals in the industry as it strives towards its goal of becoming one of the leading providers of financial products, services and advice to Canadians. To support its growth in North America, Macquarie Private Wealth (MPW) is seeking a results-driven individual to assume the position of Vice President Product & Manager Due Diligence.
Reporting to and working with the Chief Investment Officer, the Vice President Product & Manager Due Diligence will review all new issue syndicated structured as well as provide due diligence on all new products for retail distribution within MPW.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
Syndicated Structured Products mandate:
In 2009, Macquarie in Canada (including MPW formerly known as Blackmont Capital) participated in over 200 syndicated structured product transactions. MPW, working in association with Macquarie Capital Markets, has assumed due diligence for all syndicated structured products, deal structuring and prospectus approval/sign-off moving forward. New issue syndicated structured products is an integral asset class for MPW advisors as the business increases its product access and visibility in the market, and maintains deal flow.
Primary responsibilities will include:
o Participate in due diligence calls and syndication meetings;
o Analyze product structure and participate in deal structuring;
o Conduct full product due diligence: green sheets, prospectus, issuer/auditor, disclosures, marketing/presentation materials;
o Represent MPW in syndication process and negotiate deal participation percentages and fee shares;
o Facilitate branch road show presentations;
o Liaise with MPW syndication;
o Deal marketing and advisor inquiries;
o Track deals and financial reporting;
o Participate in due diligence calls and syndication meetings.
New Product Due Diligence mandate:
A New Product Investment Committee and Policy has been implemented to review, approve and categorize all new products for retail distribution within Macquarie Private Wealth. These will include: mutual funds, hedge funds, non-brokered private placements, LPs/Flow-Throughs, and external products/programs.
Primary responsibilities will include:
o Primary contact with new product issuers – maintain relationships;
o Primary contact with advisor force for new product requests – gauge demand and importance of specific product needs;
o Conduct issuer, structure and product due diligence;
o Manage product review and approval process;
o Complete all necessary documentation for committee review and consideration;
o Provide product recommendation and advisor due diligence categorization;
o Maintain approved lists and liaise with operations.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications:
Core Competencies:
Specialized role, focussed on product due diligence and review/approval process;
Mid- to senior-level investment professional with proven capital markets industry experience;
Self-starter;
Attention to detail;
Superior oral and written communications skills;
Excellent organization skills and time management abilities;
Ability to operate in a fast paced environment and meet strict deadlines;
Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Requirements:
Undergraduate degree in a business related field of study, or related (Commerce, Economics);
Masters level degree would be an asset (MBA or equivalent)
CFA charter holder or currently enrolled in CFA program;
Completion of the Canadian Securities Course (CSC);
Solid understanding of the Canadian Capital Markets sector with specific due diligence experience and/or experience in securities/investment research.
