Vice President of Operations, Western Canada

Macquarie Canada's Banking & Financial Services Group is looking for a strong Leader to take on the role of Vice President of Operations for Western Canada in its Vancouver office.

Position Summary:

The Vice President of Operations will be responsible for managing all aspects of lending operations including mortgage underwriting for the Western Canadian Regional Office, including but not limited to mortgage loan origination, processing and monitoring of the funding/closing activities of loans while adhering to company policies and compliance guidelines as well as managing Credit, Service/Processing and Inside Sales.

Key Accountabilities:

•  Member of the senior management team and responsible for driving growth and efficiency;

•  Strategic analysis of business operations and development of tactical plans in line with overall business goals and objectives;

•  Ownership of policy and procedures in particular as they relate to Compliance and Operational Risk ;

•  Effectively recruit, manage and develop a high performing team;

•  Oversee underwriting and fulfillment teams to ensure appropriate controls and delegation are in place and monitor closing/funding activities of loans processed;

•  Ensure all loans are underwritten in compliance with all guidelines and credit policies, including those of the mortgage insurer's includes confirmation of income, credit worthiness, employment history, debt and loan-to-value ratios etc.;

•  Developing risk management standards applicable to sizeable and complex commercial loans including cash flow adequacy, capital structure and asset protection and equity;

•  Effectively work with Risk and Operations Management regarding corrective action plans and/or training as necessary;

•  Interfacing with internal and external clients including Sales Managers, Central Credit, Finance, Treasury and Executive Management;

•  Liaise between internal support areas.

Ideal candidate qualifications will include:

•  Minimum ten years of progressively more responsible experience in people management, consumer credit underwriting and commercial lending;

•  University degree in relevant major (i.e.: Economics, Commerce, Mathematics)  or equivalent;

•  In-depth analytical thinking, financial understanding and operational risk management knowledge and experience;

•  Thorough understanding of commercial products, commercial loan documentation, commercial lending and supporting processes;

•  Call center management experience; 

•  In-depth knowledge of lending practices and procedures, as well as an awareness of business trends, economic and market conditions;

•  Demonstrated initiative and strength in leading projects;

•  Ability to learn quickly and remain calm under pressure in a deadline oriented environment;

•  Excellent time management and organizational skills with flexibility in their work approach, and ability to effectively manage competing priorities and timelines;

•  Accuracy and attention to detail;

•  Superior interpersonal and communication skills;

•  Ability to interact effectively and build relationships with internal and external customers;

•  Outstanding collaboration skills, with proven ability to work with multiple stakeholders to accomplish shared goals and manage expectations.

•  Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, and overall proficient computer skills (including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint);

•  Highly motivated and results-oriented professional who thrives in a challenging, fast-paced, results-driven work environment.

Decided assets would include:

  • Bilingualism (French and English);
  • Understanding of Commercial Insurance policies;
  • Experience with Insurance brokering network;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Access.
