Support Analysts, Macquarie Securities - Sydney (Perm/Cont)

Macquarie Securities Group encompasses Macquarie's Institutional and corporate stockbroking, equity derivatives and equity finance capabilities. It utilises its skills in research and risk management to originate equity-based financial solutions and products and services for clients, globally. The Group has over 1,700 staff employed in 18 offices around the world. Macquarie Securities Group (MSG) was formed in April 2008 from the merger of the Equity Markets Group and Macquarie Capital Securities.

The Macquarie Securities IT division operates as a core part of the business and considered to be part of the front line, developing and supporting leading technology platforms which are critical to the group’s success. The division is co-located with the business in a fast paced and changing environment. We currently have an excellent role for a support analyst to join the IT division based in Sydney.

In this role you will provide effective first and second level support for MSG applications, both in-house and vendor-supplied. You will be part of an established application support desk in Sydney; and collectively with other support desks in London, Hong Kong and New York,  form a global “follow the sun” model. You will escalate problems to and follow up with the development teams based in Sydney and Hong Kong, as required.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Ad-hoc troubleshooting and support for user queries & system issues
  • Extensive interaction with the associated development teams and other support desks
  • Managing small projects on a day to day basis
  • Ongoing support of trading and clearing systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot database issues
  • Coordination of DR / BCP testing and liaising with local and remote infrastructure personnel

Ideally you will have:

  • Sound technical experience in fast paced working environments. (Experience in Banking and Trading Room environments is ideal but not essential)
  • A strong customer service focus and the ability to deliver quality support
  • Good communication skills along with a strong customer service focus
  • The ability to work effectively within local and distributed teams
  • The flexibility to cheerfully deal with conflicting and ever changing priorities
  • The ability to work well under pressure to provide timely and accurate solutions to systems problems

Technical requirements:

  • University degree in engineering, computer science or equivalent
  • Strong relational database experience (ideally Sybase)
  • Good working knowledge of UNIX (ideally Solaris 8) and SQL

Technical desirables:

  • Programming and design skills in Java
  • Exposure to open-source tools such as Eclipse, JUnit and Hibernate
  • Experience of at least one OO method (ideally UML)
  • Application development experience
