Macquarie Capital is seeking a lawyer with approximately 3-5 years of restructuring related experience to join the New York office. The successful candidate will be part of the Macquarie Capital Advisors legal team which provides legal services and manages legal risk within Macquarie Capital. The candidate will focus on providing legal advice to the Restructuring and Special Situations group.
The Restructuring and Special Situations group is a group of approximately 45 professionals in 5 offices who conduct a wide range of activities including corporate restructuring advisory, distressed mergers and acquisitions advisory, principal debt transactions, and arranging debt and equity for distressed businesses.
The role offers the successful applicant the opportunity to experience a diverse range of advisory and principal activity, with a focus on restructuring transactions, as part of a small and experienced legal team. The legal team is based in Sydney with lawyers in several offices including New York, London and Hong Kong. The successful applicant will enjoy the opportunity to develop a career in a leading investment bank.
Generally, the successful candidate would perform the following tasks, among others:
- Advise on conflict policies and risks for the advisory and principal groups
- Assist with many aspects of distressed transactions and principal transactions
- Assist with advisory business, including retention and bankruptcy court issues
- Manage interactions with outside counsel
- Liaise with internal management on a multitude of issues
- Coordinating with external lawyers on the transaction team
- Monitor and review conflicts, and coordinate with internal legal and compliance teams

- Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify and manage legal issues.
- Experience in a major restructuring law firm is required. Ideally experience would be in advising on restructuring, distressed mergers and acquisitions, and distressed investing. It is anticipated that the person will have experience in managing the substantive legal issues in these types of transactions.
- Must be admitted to the New York bar.
- Approximately three to five years relevant restructuring legal experience.
